Animals have adaptations (structural, behavioural etc) that help them survive the challenges of their environment.

Program details

Venue: Amaroo Centre Grounds (Kleinton)

Duration: 9.30am–2.30pm

Availability: Term 1, 2, 3, 4

Supervision: Visiting teacher and support staff

Student experiences

  • Become eildlife biologists and investigate the fascinating features and behaviours of animals through hands-on exploration.
  • Receive ‘Crazy Critters’ before the excursion and develop hypotheses about how different animal features may help them survive.
  • Explore a collection of animal specimens, including skulls, beaks, quills, bones, feathers and X-rays, using reference materials to investigate their features and functions.
  • Investigate how animal features and behaviours help animals survive and thrive in different environments.
  • Observe local wildlife using cameras and nest boxes around Amaroo, gathering evidence of habitats and animal features.
