This program covers the practicals for Unit 3: Biodiversity and Populations (Topic 1) and Functioning Ecosystem and Succession (Topic 2) from the Biology General Senior Syllabus 2025, Version 1.3.

Local ecosystems can be explored and managed sustainably.

Venue options: 

Duration: Dependent on location. Typically 9.30am–2.30pm

Availability: Term 1, 2, 3, 4

Supervision: Visiting teacher and support staff

Program overview

This program is negotiated for maximum relevance and may include:

  • a variety of field work in local ecosystems
  • biocondition assessments, soil testing, sampling vegetation and invertebrates, and canopy cover investigations
  • collecting data for analysis related to species diversity and classification of ecosystems
  • evaluating effective ecosystem management practices
