Amaroo Environmental Education Centre (EEC) is one of twenty-four Outdoor and Environmental Centres operated by the Queensland Department of Education. Amaroo EEC was opened in 1975 on the site of the former Kleinton State School and is located 22kms north of Toowoomba. The centre is staffed by qualified principal, teachers and support personnel.
The two educational pillars for our programs are environmental sustainability and Indigenous perspectives which are cross-curriculum priorities in the Australian Curriculum. Amaroo EEC designs, develops and delivers highly effective environmental and Indigenous education programs for schools P-12 and for the community, including providing professional development for teachers.
Excursions are a major part of the programs we offer at Amaroo. Excursions run for a school day and are offered for classes from primary, secondary and special schools. They are conducted at the centre and at a variety of locations in the Toowoomba Regional Council area, though we also deliver some of our programs in schools.
Our programs support the Australian Curriculum. Topics and themes include investigating freshwater streams, energy efficiency, waste minimisation, rainforest habitats, Indigenous culture, sensory experiences in the natural environment, mini beast studies and a daytime Prep camping experience.
See our activities on Amaroo's YouTube Channel External link and on the Amaroo EEC Facebook Page for more on what we do.
